Almost Banned

Good lovely evening, my autumn-golden KitKats, this is officially Banned Book Week, or books that were and are being challenged, including, to the Kougar’s astonishment, The Holy Bible and the Grapes of Wrath.
One may wonder how a society may remain free, truly free, if books are banned. When did our basic intellect as human beings become so poor in its functioning that we require someone else, some other group or agency, to determine what we are allowed to read and what we’re not.
Gee, someday, reading itself could be outlawed, if one takes this scenario to an extreme. Remember, often, in many culture, slaves were not allowed to read and learn as a means to keep them enslaved. Women, at many points in history, were considered not capable of higher learning. Yeah, right, we all know that’s true, right? *Insert a long sarcastic wave of the Kougar’s tail here*

SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS, Ellora’s Cave author and librarian, Francesca Hawley, penned an excellent blog about Banned Book Week.
Tuesday, the Kougar will follow up with her thoughts and another installment of her Serial Flash Fiction ~ New Bull in Town.

The following quote from Kurt Vonnegut was brought to moi’s attention by Francesca ~

"All these people talk so eloquently about getting back to good old-fashioned values. Well, as an old poop I can remember back to when we had those old-fashioned values, and I say let's get back to the good old-fashioned First Amendment of the good old-fashioned Constitution of the United States and to hell with the censors! Give me knowledge or give me death!"

Happy Courtship on another Earth

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 275 ~

Sylva decided to add her teasing voice. Stroking her cowboy’s incredibly hard-muscled thigh, she asked,“Yeah, what did he do?” Ranson thumbed toward Zeke. “This here cowpoke let me chase him, then diabolically skirted the edges of a partially frozen pond. Like a fool I didn’t follow in his exact tracks and crashed through the thin snow-covered ice.” Zeke rumbled a laugh. “It was only waist deep. You made it to solid ground in minutes.” Charming to the end, Sylva thought, as Ranson arched one sandy-colored brow. “Yeah, well, certain parts of my anatomy complained mightily for more than a day.”

Zeke surely enjoyed how his Sylva ran her hand up and down his thigh, all lover-like. He also realized how much he’d missed his friendship with Ranson. Leaning forward, he clapped his shoulder. “Probably too late for an apology.” Ranson grinned, his gaze sparkly. “Put a crimp in my plans with Candace. If you recall.” Zeke raised both brows. “If you recall, I made that up to you. Flew her down to that weekend dance after I persuaded her you would show her a better time than Trent..” Ranson gave him a nod, remembering. “Course, she got hitched to Trent.”

Weekly Angelic Forecast from Volcano

Straight from the Carnal Cherub himself...

Angelic Forecast ~ #56

The following week brings more turmoil into our lives. It could feel like forces are tugging at you from every direction. And they are. This turmoil may not show up in a personal way. If it does, however, one of the best tactics is avoidance, if possible. This is one of those situations that could resolve with the passing of time. Still, if the confrontation continues, tell your truth, then avoid the monster’s claws, so to speak.
The world stage will be dominant this week. The forces of darkness have made themselves known in the metaphorical style of STAR WARS. The Empire’s storm troopers have arrived and now is the time to love your freedom more than ever For it is the precious coin of the realm.

Holy "reading could be outlawed" Batman! My heart is breaking just at the thought of something so horrible! Can you imagine the pale, lifeless hoard of people, mearly existing without a book to escape into periodically?

~sniff~

What a sad world that would be!
