He eased his cock back with painful slowness. Once he reached her tight silky entrance, he paused for an instant, immersing himself in her impassioned gaze. Her eyes were misty and bright. Breaking eye contact, he lunged swift and hard. After that, he didn’t stop. His needy shaft launched inside her over and over, his hips bucking with a fierce rhythm.

Chapter Six ~ I Arrived on Earth

“Thought what?” he asked, more curious than sin.

“You know. A renegade type.” She let her hand drop away from her throat.

“Renegade,” he repeated in a rasp. Eros god, did he ever want to be his mare’s renegade lover. He wanted to touch her desperately. Their legs still pressed together, but he wanted to caress her face, take her again. Mate her.

Instead, he murmured, “Seneca, only you can recover the amulets.”

She scrutinized his face, trying to determine if he told the truth. “I don’t understand.”

Chapter Seven ~ Full-Time Stud

Trail caressed her breasts, sliding his palms from beneath them. She nestled inside his arms as he opened them to her.

“What do we do now?” she whispered. “I felt...I guess it’s your energy, on the phone line.”

“Yes,” he answered, matching her hushed voice. “Plenty of listeners.”

She nodded, and her tears dripped on his arm, tiny hot splashes. “Does your race cry?”

He nodded, his cheek brushing her hair. “Our tears aren’t as salty.” Hugging her closer, he rested his cheek against the side of her head.

“What are we going to do? The damn effing sheriff is planning a yellow-bellied ambush. God, I’d like to...never mind.”

“I have a plan. An ambush of my own.”

Chapter Eight ~ Sheriff Pork Belly

From the shaded entrance of the stable, he watched her stride resolutely down her drive until she disappeared. Floating his sixth sense above her, he felt her volatile, yet cold determination to take on her enemy. Part of it had been born out of her sheer disgust and outrage over his immoral criminal activities. Yet, most of it was for her brother. Her fists were clenched, her nails digging into her palms. Her chin jutted with challenge.

Once Sheriff Colgan turned onto her drive, she marched faster, intercepting his effort to drive around her. She planted herself in front of his car and folded her arms. He felt her enraged glare.

Sheriff Colgan took his time getting out of his car, finally emerging as if he’d arrived to do her favor, and she better be grateful for it. He hitched up his gun belt before striding a few steps alongside his car.

Sylva felt as if a hundred pound weight had been lifted off her shoulders. At least, Zeke knew. “Come on, darlin’, let’s get some dinner. I’m starved.” Together, they moved the short distance to the booth. Her cowboy gentlemanly handed her onto the bench seat, then slid in beside her. “Ranson is going to join us for a spell.” Zeke waved him over. Ranson reminded Sylva of the cowboy singer, Dwight Yokum. Only he was taller, larger in stature. “Ranson, you remember my sister, Marina. And this Grant, who gave us some timely assistance. And this is my bride, Sylva.”
Zeke watched Ranson position his chair and join them. His smile of old was in place, the one that made him look like a merry prankster. “Pleasure to meet ya all. Especially Zeke’s bride.” He tipped his hat to Sylva before removing it. “That was quite a little showdown, even if it turned out right,” Grant stated, placing his arm around Marina’s shoulders. “Certainly is rare these days for a woman to run away, marry, and not tell her family,” Zeke commented. “Know anything about Stella?” he asked Ranson. “Nope. I’ll investigate once I return.” Marina raised her brows, “Stella?”
