Seven Small Hawks

Autumn cool meows, my lovely Big Kittens. Rain showers and a short thunderstorm hit the tame prairie in the early morning hours. The Kougaress trekked into town, under blue sunny skies with mattress-like clouds, for some supplies and spied several small hawks winging over the fields in a hunt for lunch. When she returned, after the temporary trauma of being asked to back inside a warehouse that was dark and had merchandise not a foot away from her van on both sides... yeah, maa-owww, good thing, this Big Cat girl is generally good at that sort of thing... anyhoo mews, as she neared her home lair, she saw something to behold, indeed.
From the corner of her eye, she spotted movement in the sky. Turning to look, she stared. A flock of small hawks circled and rode the winds over a couple of pastures. It was so amazing to watch them fly in hunting spirals. Sometimes separately, sometimes in pairs, they would swoop low, then soar higher, all of them searching. Finally, moi was un-awed enough to count them. There were seven small hawks... the Kougar sent them thanks and blessings.

BTW, darling KitKats, moi will no longer be able to express her un-PC thoughts, or dare speak about products that work for her, without the possibility of nasty consequences. “Murder.”
The Panther King paused in his fast fluid movements, studying her face. Bending over, he opened a bottom drawer, pulling out what Keziah sensed was the last of his personal items. Her impatience gnawing at her, she watched him precisely shove them into separate pockets of the large brief case.
“It’s the headache,” she persisted. “You’re not taking me seriously, Copper. They’re here.”
“Who’s here, honey?”
“They’re here... with a gun. Someone wants to blast your head off. Is someone pissed off at you?”
“Yeah. Garrison hates my guts. I usually got the cases he wanted.”
Keziah rolled her eyes as he performed a thorough check of the contents before snapping the brief case closed. He should have been listening to her, not engaged in some final farewell ritual.
“Not Garrison... a woman. You put... put her husband away... recently.”
Hell hath no fury like a vision determined to make itself known. Keziah pressed her temples between the heels of her hands.
Thunder-Force Man halted. Spinning on his heel, he lowered himself to his swivel chair, all in one impressive move. “Cherry Franklin. Swore she’d get revenge.”

Sylva couldn’t quite believe what all was happening around her. Though, some of it had been at her instigation. “It is exciting.” She and Marina shared smiles. “A lot to think about while I’m keepin’ track of this evening’s situation.” Ranson swirled the last of his coffee before drinking it. “Thank you for the fine company everyone. Best be on my way, though. Zeke, a final word at the door?” Swooping up Sylva’s hand, her cowboy planted a kiss. “Back in a few, darling. Have Marina order something sweet for us. Whatever you take a fancy to will be fine.”

Zeke slid from the booth watching Ranson rise. Donning his Stetson, he tipped it to Sylva, Marina and Grant. “Pleasure to meet you all. I’ll look forward to your company again.” Sincerity radiated from his university chum like in their good days together. “You’re welcome at my table.” Grant reached out, shaking Ranson’s hand. “What my husband said,” Marina added, her smile truly gracious. “What’s on your mind?” Zeke asked, once they’d moved to the door. “I’m thinkin’ we need to be extra careful, given everything we discussed. May be the SS is ahead of us on using the pyramids.”
