Flash of the Right Hook

No, dearest KitKats, not as in a boxer’s winning right hook. Or a right hook that sends one brawler flying across the table in an Old West bar room fight. No, meow, not the right hook for catching that rainbow trout... or the right claw hook of a Big Cat catching her salmon dinner.
Today, Mima hosted Flash Fiction Sunday at
Liquid Silver SEx blog... for some great opening scenes in progress take a peekie.

Moi posted the first 100 words from BRANDED BY THE TEXANS ~

Tears quietly slid down Kylie’s heated cheeks. Shoving down the desperation she felt, she squeezed the bars of the jail cell harder. The cool metal heated rapidly as she watched her knuckles turn to a sickening shade of white.
Forcing her fingers to loosen, she prayed again, Please, please, get me out of here, God. From the moment she’d been arrested, she’d vacillated between downright panic and feeling surreal, as if she watched a movie unfold, one she didn’t want to see.
For the thousandth time, she asked herself how the fucking hell she was getting out of this mess

Commas, another name for insanity!!! The Kougar’s brain may be permanently discombobulated on the use of commas... or, so many styles, so little time... and this Big Cat never knows who wants what???????????????????????? Argh yoooowwwllll...
However, purring, so far, moi can’t complain about how her overall edits are going. Yep, still humming happily along. The Kougar can only hope this will continue.

It’s another WIP ... DEATH BY COMMA CONFUSION ~

She was so confused about the use of commas in her latest work-in-progress, the author poured herself a cognac. Standing next to a nicely crackling fireplace, she sipped to alleviate her confoundment and to forget her current crises. Describing her characters engaging in an act of carnal gymnastics proved to be difficult enough in its logistics. On top of that feat... oh where oh where to place the commas. Before his cock. Or after his balls. Between her breasts or between her eagerly parting thighs.
As it turned out the author’s portion was much too generous and her distress way too catastrophic. On the way up the curved staircase, her balance wavered for a split second and she tumbled backwards. Not able to snatch the bannister in time, the raking marks of her nails scored the finely polished wood. Too inebriated to cry out, she fell silently and cracked her noggin. A blessed unconsciousness overcame her almost at once. And though, she didn’t realize it, the author smiled with relief.
Lurking in the tall shadow of the smoking room’s elegant drapes, he observed her fall. He’d meant only to privately leer at her classical female form and perform a pleasurable handmade act upon himself. Yet, now the hand of Fate offered him a final solution, as if on an expensive silver platter. And he had very few of those these days, since his gambling debts were piled up to the very rafters and his life wasn’t worth a plug nickel. Not that he’d informed anyone of his pitiful debauchery in losing his entire inheritance.
What he did have, ready and handy, was his family’s heirloom cutlass. He’d secreted the prize that had helped win the family’s original fortune, behind the drapes knowing his elder brother would never discover it before he had a chance to sweep it beneath his handsome wool coat and scoot out the front door. The seamy private dealer had practically guaranteed him an impressive payment, enough to tide him over until Lady Luck kissed him on the cheek, once again.
Smiling at the arrival of a cold-blooded nature he never realized he possessed, he snuck toward his dozing elder brother. Well into his nightly cacophony of snores as he sat in his great chair letting the fireplace roast his toes, his brother’s head had awkwardly fallen to one side. Yet, it was still manageable. He knew it was. All he had to do...
Squinting one eye, he cocked the cutlass and calculated his strike. Perhaps it was his pirate genes. Perhaps it was his desperate need for survival that forced his hand, or both of his hands. He swung, feeling as if he knew precisely what slash to make across his brother’s flaccid throat.
Easy as slicing open a ripe cantaloupe, yet the spurt and gush of red blood excited him in a manner that was both cold-hearted and primitive. Stepping back quickly, he believed the magnificent spray of blood didn’t ruin his only acceptable evening attire.
A tiny smile of unmitigated triumph lit his face as his adrenaline poured with a lovely ferocity he’d never experienced. Even winning at the gambling table was no comparison.
Keeping to his plan, the rapidly strode to the quite drunk author, who lay limp as a well-used dust rag. Most certainly, her neck had been broken in that terrible crashing fall down the stairs. Taking the time to smear his brother’s blood on her clothing, he wondered where best to lay the cutlass, so it appeared to have flown from her un-clutching hand.

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....

Part 246 ~

Sylva gazed back and forth, torn between watching her cowboy husband and keeping her attention on Marina and Grant. “Any idea what’s really goin’ on?” Marina loudly whispered. “I know Dad didn’t tell us everything.” Omygawd, now what? How much did she confide in Marina? Did Zeke want them to know about her Merlin heritage? Sylva certainly didn’t think so. At least, not yet. Still, what in the hell did she say? “What I know is that Ranson claims he has information about me. But that could be bait. Zeke told me about their days’ long mud brawl, the bad blood.”

Zeke eased himself onto the counter stool next to Ranson, positioning himself so he kept instant access to his pistol. “Beautiful bride, Zeke lad.” Ranson slightly swivelled his torso toward him. He still gazed straight ahead and kept his grip on his sarsparilla. “Never doubted you’d end up with a special woman. Just didn’t know she would be ‘that’ special.” He allowed himself a small dry laugh, then tossed down a few swallows of his brew. “I showed up to rectify my errors of the past. Plus, I’m damned concerned about your bride. There are those who already make plans.”

Ah, Ricardo, you are the man. And you express your admiration and love for your Cynthia in such a masculine and beautiful way. I am in awe of your penning prowess.
I must confess, though, the men whose stories I write would have fallen in love with Starr.
However, as is the way of life upon this wonderful spinning world, we all choose to our own pleasure and satisfaction. And so it is now.
May love always be yours.

~kitteny purrs~ I must move past that heavenly picture to see what delights the Lady Kougar has for me today!

Damn those comma's! They will surely be the death of many a fine writer! Love the comma flash...sounds like a great opening to a ghost story!

Serena ~ talk about a handsome hook!

I hadn't thought of a ghost story, but it would.
I was so frustrated, it just sort of came pouring out. I was thinking of entering it in the worst opening contest, or whatever that contest is called based on ~ It was a dark and story night...

Not the worst opening contest! hehe, I like it! It gives a humorous touch to a murder and set the stage for a fun ghost story...imo. If you do go the contest route...good luck!! :)

I hear ya on the comma frustration! That and semi colons...thankfully I have an awesome CP who calls me on every miss comma - semicolon use! heeh

Can we trust Ranson? Zeke will have to decide.

Serena ~ what a great CP!

Actually, it's because there are different styles the different editors use. So, I don't know which way to jump. Then I get confused when I'm working on my WIP.

Gem ~ That is the question, isn't it?
