Gray Goochy Day and Ball of Confusion ~ Psychedelic Soul

The Temptations during their psychedelic period of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Left to right: Eddie Kendricks, Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, and Dennis Edwards

Ola, Kittens, meow grumbles, mostly the day was a goochy gray, though, the sun made a splendid appearance near sunset and luminesced the sky with a dreamy gorgeous shade of pink.
Recently, the Kougar was reminded of a song done by the Tempations she resonated deeply with, both the lyrics and the music, during a period of time that included what was called Psychedelic Soul, like the album above. Which came first, the name or the album, this Big Cat doesn’t know, however, it was absolutely apt. The psychedelic movement, in general, brought about a new rise of the human soul. Psychedelic soul elevated that awareness of social issues to a new height.
So sad, too bad, from this Big Cat’s perspective, very little has changed, overall, since that hay day of thought revolution. In fact, the other day, she realized that even though, as a kid-cub growing up during the 50's, she chafed beneath the lack of certain freedoms, that prior time in our history, was a bastion of freedom when compared to now.
Read on for some psychedelic soul...

The Temptations

Ball Of Confusion
~ lyrics

People moving out,
People moving in,
Why, because of the color of their skin,
Run, run, run, but you just can't hide.

An eye for an eye,
Tooth for a tooth,
Vote for me and I'll set you free,
Rap on, brother, rap on.

Well, the only person talking about loving thy brother is the preacher,
And it seems nobody's interested in learning, but the teacher,
Segregation, demonstration, integration, determination, aggravation, humiliation,
Obligation to our nation.

Ball of confusion,
That's what the world is today, hey.

The sale of pills is at an all time high,
Young folks walk with their heads in the sky,
The cities aflame in the summertime,
And oh the beat goes on.

Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul-shooting rockets to the moon,
Kids growing up too soon,
Politicians say, "More taxes will solve everything,"
The band played on.

So, round and around and around we go,
Where the world's headed, nobody knows

Oh, Great Googamooga,
Can't you hear me talking to you,
Just a ball of confusion,
That's what the world is today, hey.

Fear in the air, tension everywhere,
Unemployment rising fast,
The Beatles new record's a gas,
And the only safe place to live,
Is on an Indian reservation,
The band played on.

Eve of destruction, tax deduction,
City inspectors, bill collectors, mod clothes in demand,
Population out of hand, suicide, too many bills,
Hippies moving to the hills,
People all over the world are shouting, "End the war!",
And the band played on.

Great Googamooga,
Can't you hear me talking to you,
Just a Ball Of Confusion, -ac

The Holy **** Moment
By Pat Cunningham

You know what I’m talking about. You’re reading a book, or watching TV or a movie, when suddenly there’s an incident or a plot twist that widens your eyes and makes your fist fly up to your mouth and you go, “Oh my god, they did not just do that.” And you sit there stunned, wondering what the characters are going to do about this.

AND!

On Tuesday, May 19, the Kougar is blogging ~ The Enchantment of Silky ~ you might enjoy this new shapeshifter scene.

Where To Find Romance--In a Book, That Is
by Linda Blanche

No, I'm not conducting a dating service.
I'm discussing mainstream romance novels, and the different genres available.

Moi’s mew-sings ~

Linda, thanks for the concise breakdown. So true, it's a banquet out there as far as storylines and heat levels.

The future as I've said before is a niche market. More and more authors are writing their niche romances and readers are either demanding a certain subgenre or they are finding new genres they like.

The romance novel pie is ever-expanding with many more slices, depending on author/reader tastes and preferences.

Actually, this is the trend that is occurring throughout the world. Mass market of about anything is becoming less and less due to many factors/dynamics.

J.A. Saare, Code-Red Napalm ... and that's just her in real life

Well, hello again to the blogosphere. I’m a little late putting up today’s interview – I apologize J. A. I’ll make it up to you someday :>
A: Today, we’re sitting down with J.A. Saare.

SADLY!!! for all of us author/readers the new supreme court nominee is on record as being in favor of book burning and limiting free speech. This means all of us are in danger of having our beloved books banned, the ones we want to read and the ones we write.
The Kougar is suggesting, at this time, that everyone hoard and share as many books as possible. And write, write, write!!! as many books as you can, then ‘secret’ them away for yourself and future generations... just in case, the worst hits. And think about the possibility of creating a black market in banned books. Just in case...

Happy Courtship on another Earth

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 505 ~

Sylva felt her thoughts bounce back and forth like a tennis ball. Considering them as she stroked and manipulated her cowboy’s arch, it hit her what she felt and realized at her deepest core. “Your Earth makes sense, cowboy. I mean...” Taking a long breath, she continued, “I mean from what I know, so far. The way things are on my Earth doesn’t make any sense, if you look at it. Everything felt out of sync... as if it was artificially manipulated. I mean how can you have advanced computer tech and oil-based energy at the same time?” Sylva sighed.

Zeke basked in his woman’s massage and weighed her words. “What do you mean by oil-based energy? Are you talkin’ about vegetable matter fuels or a petroleum fuel?” She eyed him speculatively. “Petroleum. Cars or vehicles that run on gasoline.” Zeke stared in disbelief for a moment. “That is a primitive use for black gold.” His Sylva smiled for an instant, lighting up his world. “Black gold, Texas Tea... my mom used to say that, or sorta sing it. It was from an old TV series called the Beverly Hillbillies.” Zeke surely enjoyed his bride’s lightheartedness. Still, she was troubled.

BAD NEWS CORRECTION ~

While many folks in Thailand are angry over government corruption, etc., and are revolting... however, the Thai protest occurring could also be a well-funded operation to tear Thailand apart, on purpose by THOSE who have the most to gain politically, THOSE in other countries who want to see a weakened Thailand, and THOSE seeking world domination... you know, using the strategy of divide and conquer... and/or create the problem and then offer the solution.

I just love the circle of time and how it shows up regularly in our music. I remember hearing that song as a kid and you know, reading the words here today...well it still applies frighteningly well today as it did then. ~sigh~

Serena ~ yeah, sigh... I saw those lyrics again and did a double-take, and I lived through all that. Like most of us, I took heart when I did see changes toward a better world... unfortunately, that's changed.
