As the world turns, burns... Terminator Kougar

Late night yowls, my firecracker-hot Felines... the Kougaress hopes you are enjoying whatever time off you may have now, and are having a good time with family and friends... yeppers, hot as peppers, the fireworks are flying high here on the tame prairie.

It was gather up the necessities today, and moi traveled into town. On her way back, she saw three gorgeous hawks winging against the beautiful blue sky, looking for dinner on the farm fields below. Driving is often good think time and this Big Cat began remembering certain turning points in her life, and reflecting on them as compared to the current reality of life.

So, as the world turns, burns... *now*... this is what the Kougaress should have done with her life... turned her body into a lean, mean, killing machine like Sarah Conner did in the Terminator Two movie.... made certain her lifestyle was ultra healthy... that means owning an organic farm/ranch with like-minded friends, one that is completely self-sufficient as far as water, food, energy (solar, alcohol, windmill, etc.), clothing and transportation... oh, and a machine shop along with other necessary crafts like making shoes and boots... also, a place that can easily be transformed into a fortress against the baddies and used as a refuge for the good folks. And, okay, art and entertainment... musical instruments, lots of books, fiction and non-fiction, survival books... and yep, doctoring stuff, medicines, growing the healing herbs, everything natural and good for you... oh, and developing psi abilities, in order, to repel any and all attacks. Heck, bring on the super powers. And, let’s all turn Ninja.

Happy Friday everyone,

As I near the end of my current story, I find myself thinking about new characters and I give the ideas that have been germinating these many weeks a chance to flow onto the paper as scenes or scene-ettes. :)

Flirty Friday: Good Bookstore Pick-up Lines
by Elise Hepner

So, I'm going to admit something here--I've always wanted to be hit on in a bookstore. Now, on husband and I's first date he kissed me in a Barnes and Nobles, but that doesn't count. So in honor of my PG fantasy here are some of the amusing (fake) bookstore pick up lines.

Happy Birthday to Coyote Moon

It was one year ago today that my first romance story, COYOTE MOON, came out from Bookstrand. In honor of the occasion, here's an excerpt:

She straightened and stretched, from her toes to her tongue, then used that tongue to swear. She squeezed her eyes shut, opened them, scrunched them shut again. Yellow eyes loomed behind her lids. She lifted them and swore again. Still there.

If only the wolves were the actual culprits. Unfortunately, her concentration had been shattered by a two-legged wolf with a Texas twang who wouldn't get out of her head.

Okay, give him major points for cuteness. The big bullfrog grin, the shaggy mop of sandy hair, that lean, wiry frame. He'd be all supple muscle under his clothes, not an ounce of fat. She rested her hands on the fender of the Chevy she was working on. That's how his body would feel. Smooth and hard, not cold like metal but warm and restless. And the smell of him! Sun-warmed summer grass. She wanted to lie down and roll in it, blend his scent with her own.

Jeez, girl, will you get a grip? He's no big deal. Just different. A fresh face in a small town. Something to break the monotony. Every girl in Coopersburg will be panting after him for at least a week. Until the next diversion comes along.

Willy didn't have time for diversions. She had her hands full with her job, dealing with Beth and her bad behavior, and those itchy full-moon cravings. There, see? It wasn't Cody at all, not specifically. Just that he was male, and new, and he and his delicious, intoxicating scent had shown up right at the wrong time of the month. Her hormones had taken it from there.

Angrily she shook her head to shake his face away. Everything went but the eyes. Those piercing, bizarre yellow eyes. Something bold and uninhibited lurked in their depths, and held out a hand to invite her inside. It sang to the wildness inside her, the part she fought to keep buried. It made her want to howl. But hell, when she got like this, what didn't?

Two days. You can stand it for another two days. Which, at this rate, would go down as the longest two days in history.

She yanked her hands off the fender and slapped them against her thighs, to knock off the dirt and any other lingering tactile sensations. In the process she dropped the dipstick again. "Crap," she announced, and bent over.

In this position, peering upside-down between her spread legs with her jeans-clad butt in the air, she spotted the dog.

If this wasn't the same dog that had followed her howls out of the woods last night, then there'd been twins in the litter. Long tawny legs, tall ears, brush of a tail, muzzle sharp as a Bowie knife. It sat on its haunches just beyond the bay door, with its tongue hanging out and its topaz eyes fixed on hers. No way it could have followed her from home. How had it ended up here?

She straightened too quickly and tagged her head on the Chevy's bumper. She spat out a word a lot stronger than "crap." The dog hopped up with an anxious whine. "I'm okay," she told it. She rubbed her forehead. No blood. Thank Heaven for small favors. "I'm just having the mother of all bad days. And how did you get here? How did you find me?"

Reassured she wasn't hurt, the dog yipped softly and wagged its tail. Willy felt a smile tug at her lips. She'd always liked dogs, in an indulgent, patronizing sort of way. Okay to pet, but not in her league. Oh jeez, where had that thought come from? The full moon couldn't wane fast enough.

No need to take all this out on some poor, defenseless stray, however. She hunkered down and snapped her fingers. "C'mere, boy. Who's a good boy?"

The dog practically flew across the garage and into her arms. Willy went over backwards onto her rump, narrowly missing the bumper. The dog took advantage and straddled her. It slopped its rough tongue across her cheeks and nose. She couldn't keep from laughing, even as she tried to fend it off. "You're a bit too friendly, Fido. Don't they treat you right at home?"

She caught the dog carefully by its ruff. "Let's see where that is."
The dog allowed her fingers to probe the fur around its neck. No collar, no license. "Another wanderer in off the street," Willy murmured. "This must be the week for you guys. You even look like him."

Damned if he didn't. Sandy hair, lean build, sharp nose. Brash and grinning. A scent like prairie grass in sunshine. The dog cocked its head and peered at her with yellow eyes that all of a sudden looked eerily familiar.

No. Come on. Those crazy full-moon notions were spiraling way out of hand.

"Willy? You all right? I thought I heard you—" Tony Koslinski stuck his badly-toupeed head in from the office. He and the dog spotted each other simultaneously. Both yelped. Koslinski's had words in it. "The hell!" He snatched up a wrench and flung it at the dog, which dodged expertly. "Get!" Koslinski roared. "Get out of here!"

The dog got, at top speed. Willy scrambled up. "What are you doing? It's just a stray dog. A bit pushy, maybe, but–"

"The hell that's a dog. That's a coyote."

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 551 ~

Sylva kissed Zeke’s lips, a goodbye-for-now smooch. Their mouths clung, reluctant to let go. Still, they eased their lips apart and Sylva moved to roll from him. He halted her, gripping her upper arms tenderly. “I surely would like to take you home, darlin’ mine, resume our honeymoon.” Sylva felt herself grin, a quick upturn of her lips. “I wish, cowboy mine. I so wish. But, the big bad world turns on both our Earths.” Planting another fast kiss on her mouth, Zeke twisted with her, placing her beside him. Their gazes sweetly seared into each other for long moments.

Zeke felt his heart swell to twice it’s size. “I’m the luckiest son of a gun alive. I keep thinkin’ that, over and over. We’re in for some tough times, Sylva, with this Secret Circle and BP sidewinder business. But, we’ll come through this. Together.” She nodded, his woman, her eyes an enchanting shimmer. “Who knows? Maybe, I’ll dream walk and find out some more things we need to know.” Zeke whipped above her. “Maybe, my bride, you’ll get some sweet dreamin’ time. Get some real rest. I’ll be back soon.” Dang, his body was unwilling to move from her.

WARNING! If you breed dogs, and have show dogs, this Big Cat just heard something beyond chilling. Once upon a time, long, long ago, moi raised and showed canines... yes, felines, it’s true. She and other breeders took pride in improving the quality of dog breeds, both confirmation and temperament. However, now, the HUMANE SOCIETY has targeted breeders as THE ENEMY. No, not puppy mill breeders, ALL BREEDERS!!! No matter the quality of your canines, or how much you and others love them. For a time, breeders worked hand in hand with the Humane Society, often taking in dogs of their particular breed.
About ten, twelve years ago, this Big Cat witnessed a major shift in the Humane Society and those who began taking it over. These were not individuals who truly loved animals, or dogs. THESE were individuals with ugly souls who only cared about ‘legally’ stealing other folks’ dogs so they could sell them for a profit... all under the guise of ‘saving’ the animals. Also, at the same time, THOSE with an evil agenda co-opted the Humane Society and similar groups, taking over from folks who really did care about rescuing animals.
What EVIL AGENDA?
A long while back this Big Cat presented a documented article, on this blog, about the REAL AGENDA of PETA.... and, that is, getting rid of every pet. That is one of the *true goals* of THOSE at the top of PETA. No pets for any of us. Yep, these PETA people went out and rescued animals... and, what did they do with them? THEY KILLED THEM *ALL* AS FAST AS THEY COULD... no, no good homes for these dogs and cats. No loving care... just death and being tossed away as if they were garbage.
So, if you value your pets, be they mutts or purebred, or designer bred... remember THESE organizations who say they care, DO NOT!!! And, THEY have an *invisible* agenda to rid the world of pets and that includes your beloved pets. Of course, many individuals within these groups truly care, and care with their whole hearts. But, THEY aren’t in control of the ultimate dark-hearted agenda. DO NOT TRUST anything these ‘save the animals’ groups propose. Nothing! No matter how reasonable and logical it sounds.
Remember, many of the German people went along Hitler’s agenda because it sounded so right and reasonable.

Bundle Up Weather

Curl up comfily, my beautiful Big Cats, it’s bundle up weather on the tame prairie. The rains finally moved in very early this morning after a mostly overcast day. It pounded off and on, then turned cold and changed to a steady rain for most of the day.
The Kougar spent most of the day, figuring out ways to bundle cozily and keep the pain at bay from her slowly healing leg. Well-meow, not exactly, she created a new promo for THE HAUNT chat loop. She also read three fab blogs on three vastly different subjects.
Plus, she finally reached *her creative mind needs a break* time, and had the opportunity to fully read Pat Cunningham’s
COYOTE MOON. What a perfect, cleverly entertaining escape into the world of one werecoyote... more of a review later, however here’s one of the Kougar’s favorite parts ~
“We can charge straight into a pack of wolves, and get our heads bit off. But there’s a better way. The coyote way.”
Yeah! The coyote way!
~~~
Also! Talk about entertaining ~ scamper on over to SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS for an interview with LooseID author, Kitty Ducane... you’ll adore her and her excerpt. Yep and purrs, that’s her cover art up above.
~~~
And, ever wonder about Halloween jack o’ lantern lore... then stroll on over to THE PINK BLOG for Danielle’s wonderful pumpkiny blog. This Big Cat mentally rubbed with happy satisfaction.
~~~
Oh, and Werewolves! Did you know there is lore about good werewolves? Learn about it from this excellent blog ~ Werewolves in Ireland by Karen Nutt ~ http://twrpblackrose.blogspot.com/2009/10/werewolves-in-ireland_08.html ~
This great information gave this Big Cat author a whole new dimension for her black wolf WIP once titled, Kill the Black Wolf. That’s been changed to a chapter title with the tentative story title being ~ SAVAGE FOR HIS WOLF WITCH. Moi did further research into a name for this particular tribe of wolf shifters... created, initially, by an Atlantean woman, who is a revered specialist in genetically engineering animal species that adapt well to life on Earth.
~~~
Last night, while listening to Coast-to-Coast am, paranormal nighttime radio... Big Foot was the topic. Especially intriguing is the interaction some people have had with these reclusive humongous creatures, who seem to have a taste for apples.

Still, yowls of accomplishment, the Kougar did get a lot of penning done on KANDY APPLE FOR HALLOWEEN... *shivers* the villains have arrived.

Just for the Halloween lovin’ KitKats ~ a snippet ~

“You are found, daughter of Affrony.” The feminine voice sang in inviting tones. Yet, menace saturated the atmosphere. “Speak, so that we might introduce ourselves. Your true heritage awaits you. Come to us.”
Kandace remained paralyzed, barely allowing a breath to pass in and out.
“Enemy!” Zol growled the word savagely. “Attack and I will scorch your hides into a bonfire that will light up the black bowels of hell.”

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 285 ~

Sylva watched Zeke clap Ranson on the shoulder, then shut the diner door behind him, once he’d departed. She sent a prayer of protection to Ranson. From what she’d experienced so far, this was a safer Earth in many ways... yet not without it’s major dangers. Sylva sighed silently, knowing part of her was exhausted from dealing with her desperate situation on her Earth. Now, it appeared she had so much more than before, still, there was a whole new set of concerns that took aim at her. Maybe, her cowboy husband was strong enough to handle them. She hoped.

Zeke quickly sauntered back to his bride. Her welcoming expression pleased him mightily. Yet, what didn’t please him was the sheer fatigue he witnessed in the depths of her eyes. Everything had taken its toll on her. “You know what I’m hankerin’ for,” Zeke slid beside his Sylva and embraced her shoulders. “What?” She smiled radiantly. “I’m hankerin’ for dessert, for a cuddle with my bride, then a long time of slumbering. We’ll get a fresh start on tomorrow. Time enough to figure out plans for everything that’s come up, darlin’. Besides, we still have our honeymoon. That comes first.”

Full Moon Smiles, Eclipsed...

Late evening purrs, my Loveliest KitKats, the sunset is a luminous shade of pink, so gorgeous the Kougar paused to drink it into her being-ness. It’s been a busy-intense day of writerly biz stuff.
Lucky Omen and absolute synchronicity, indeed, for the release date of COYOTE MOON by Pat Cunningham, released on this very day of July 7, 2009.
Maaoww... The Full Moon Smiles, her lunar eclipse soon to be eclipsed by a solar eclipse on July 21/22, then the third eclipse, arriving on August 6/7. For a bit more on the significance of the triple eclipse that is upon us, checkout this Big Cat’s post on the SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS blog.

For now, here’s the blurb and ‘official’ excerpt ~

COYOTE MOON by Pat Cunningham

Blurb ~

It's that time of the month -- the full moon -- when Willy Alvarez's moods go wonky and her dreams fill up with wolves. A time for hungers she doesn't dare fulfill because they lead to violence. She's resigned herself to a manless life, then Cody Gray arrives.

Cody is cute, funny, charming, and a werecoyote. His nose knows what Willy doesn't: she's half werewolf. He's convinced this repressed half-human she-wolf is his perfect mate. Now he just has to convince her. And quick, because her long-lost pack has learned about her existence, and they've come to town to claim her...

Excerpt ~

Cody sighed carefully, in and out. She wasn’t really in a state to hear this, but… “Willy, listen up. We’re out of time, so I gotta be blunt. You’re a werewolf.”
She stiffened in his arms. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Definite wolf. Not all the way, though, just half. From what I’m seeing and smelling, I’d say the wolf’s stronger than the human.”
She lifted her head and stared at him. His eyes were inches from hers, and utterly sincere. “You’re serious.”
“‘Fraid so. You almost shifted tonight, that’s what happened to you. The wolf and the ape are all mixed up and your body can’t make up its mind. I’m betting once you switch all the way, everything’ll sort itself out.”
“Switch? You mean, into a wolf?” Good God, this must be loonie night, and here she was stuck out in the middle of nowhere with a naked one. “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“Wish I could say yes, but you’re showing all the signs. You’re a wolf, and the sooner you own up to that—Hey, where you going?”
“Home.” Willy marched past him, eyes carefully averted, in the direction she figured Coopersburg must lie. The panic had run its course; her brain operated coolly again, all unwanted thoughts and emotions carefully suppressed. Okay, not all, but distance from Cody would take care of that. And maybe by the time she got there, she’d have figured out a way to deal with Beth that didn’t involve homicide. “Werewolf, my ass.”
In the blink of an eye Cody shot ahead of her and planted himself in her path. “I can see you’ve gotten good at this, but you can’t keep running forever. Face facts, darlin’. You’re a wolf, pure and simple, and you better accept it, or what happened tonight’ll happen again. Next time you might kill somebody.”
Like she hadn’t thought of that. Quick, distract herself. She waved her arm at the sky. “Explain why I’m human while a full moon’s out.”
“It only works like that in the movies. We can change whenever we want.”
“‘We’? So you’re a werewolf, too? Well, I guess that explains the lack of clothing.”
“Not wolf. Coyote.”
“Oh? Well, that’s a big difference.” She started walking again.
He got in her way again. She glared at him, seething over the effort it took to keep her gaze locked on his and not let it dip. Her mood swings threatened to swing her in that totally inappropriate direction again. Think of something else. “Okay, I’ll play along. How am I supposed to…switch?”
“First you take your clothes off.”
“That’s what I thought.” She stalked down the hillside. “That’s the sickest pickup line I’ve ever heard.”
She picked the stretch with the fewest rocks and stomped along it. She kept her glare riveted straight ahead, so she wouldn’t have to look at Cody. She could hear him trotting at her side, just out of reach. “Not a line,” he said, “just common sense. You’ll rip your clothes if you try to change in ‘em. Just thinking ahead, is all.”
“Of course,” she said frostily. “And I suppose in order to achieve this `switch’ I have to sleep with you?”
“Well, no. Never heard of it done that way.” His voice lit up. “Might be fun, though.”
“I’m calling the cops when I get home. I’m having you put away.” And maybe herself, right after.
“If that’s what makes you happy. I’m betting it won’t.” He reached for her arm. “For your own good—”
She snapped at him, a move so quick, so instinctive, she had no time to think. Her teeth clicked together just short of his fingers. She followed it up with a snarl that would have backed up a whole pack of wolves. Cody stood his ground and waited her out. The snarl died away when she realized what she’d done. Her color drained off until she was pale as the moon.
“That’s her,” Cody said softly. “The wolf. You don’t let her out, she’ll kill you. Chew you up from the inside.”
“No. I’m not. You’re not. Those things don’t exist.” She would have bolted, but Cody caught hold of her and wouldn’t let go, no matter how much she thrashed and snapped.
“Atta girl,” he encouraged. “Set her loose. I’d rather we didn’t do it like this, but like my daddy always says, any den in a twister.”
Willy ground out a curse and kicked. Her knee fell short of its target. Their legs tangled and they tumbled to the ground. She tried to scramble up, but couldn’t find her footing. Her hands and feet kept sliding all over the carpet of pine needles, and Cody. Like having four legs that refused to cooperate with a brain programmed to deal with only two.
“That’s the spirit, darlin’. Hey, is that hair on your neck?”
She aimed a punch at him, and missed. How dare he make jokes while she—oh crap. While she rolled around on the ground on top of a naked psycho. She shoved away from him and scrabbled back. “Don’t touch me. Don’t come near me.”
“You sure?” His grin infuriated her. “For our breed, this counts as foreplay.”
“You disgusting son of a—”
Coyote. Cody was gone. She blinked and he blurred. The coyote crouched in front of her, forelegs splayed and hindquarters hiked in the air. He waved his tail and yapped at her, an invitation to play.
Willy gulped, hard. I did not just see that.
The coyote lolled his tongue. Cody’s grin on canine jaws. His yellow eyes held Cody’s twinkle. He rocked back on his hindquarters and became Cody again, kneeling before her. “See that? Nothing to it. Now you try.”
I’m not going to scream. Screaming is for sissies.
She fainted instead.

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....

Part 191 ~

Sylva reached out before she realized it, the sight of Zeke’s tanned masculine hand irresistible. Halting herself, she weighed the emotional pros and cons, a slugfest with herself... then covered his hand with hers. Tenderly, slowly, he turned his hand over, his palm meeting hers. Moments later, his thumb caressed, sweetness and sensual invitation. With a natural movement they clasped hands and Sylva wondered if she’d ever felt this magical glow with any other man. This lighter than air feeling. Yet, their connection was a solid. Her closest description was when she stood on the Earth with her bare feet.

Zeke surreptitiously observed the emotions flit over his Sylva’s face as she hesitantly reached out, then placed her hand over his. Quelling his eagerness, he darn well knew she was a filly who required a slow and easy hand right now. Dang, if the fireworks didn’t shoot pel mel through his loins and spike his cock. Especially as their palms joined and he stroked the soft full flesh close to her thumb with his thumb. Then, natural as you please, they held hands. As the bubbly flow of her essence filled him, he happily drowned. Zeke grinned, answering, “I whooped.”

COYOTE MOON by Pat Cunningham

Shapeshifters rule, my gorgeous Big Cats. Yesterday, it was THE CHALLENGE by Serena Shay.
Today, the Kougar is introducing her ATIV buddy, Pat Cunningham, and her very first romance genre book, COYOTE MOON ~ coming soon from Siren-BookStrand, their BookStrand line. Looks like July 7 is the lucky release date. Check out Pat’s blog post at Title Magic.
Here’s a peekie at the beginning ~

Cody Gray hiked into Coopersburg just shy of sunset, and right off the bat he smelled she-wolf.
Cody’s mouth stretched in a great big fox-in-the-henhouse grin. If he’d had his tail right then, he’d’ve wagged it. All the way up from Texas he’d been on the lookout for some nice wild country to set up a pack in, and a mate to help him get started. Just when he figured northern California might fill the bill for one, Fate dropped the other in his lap. Chaos, patron of the coyote-folk, must be smiling on him.
He set his nose to the wind. He’d already spotted a bar up ahead, and a couple of houses and a gas station, before the two-laner he’d hitchhiked in on widened out and entered Coopersburg proper. The she-wolf was at the gas station, and plenty riled by the scent of her. He drank in a noseful of her and sighed. Nice and pungent. Alpha, maybe? He liked his girls feisty. Cody quickened his pace.
Closer to the gas station, he spotted a nasty tableau: three big apes closing in on a pair of ladies. The lady in back, getting herded into the dubious safety of the garage bay, was slender, blonde and cursing like a dock hand. The herder had auburn hair and three-four inches on the blonde. She looked fit to chew brass and spit tacks. Cody’s pulse ramped up to a gallop. There was his wolf, and she was about to get herself trounced. Her bared teeth kept the apes at bay, but they wouldn’t hold much longer.
He slowed and came up on them careful and unnoticed, close enough to smell the alcohol on the apes and hear the menace coloring their taunts. The wolf-gal said something. The snarl in her tone announced the apes were in for a whuppin’, but she made no move to attack. Cody crouched behind a parked car. Chaos, only three of them. Why didn’t she just shift and end it?

CURSES WERE STRANGE BEASTS

CHAPTER THREE ~ Thunder-Force Man
Keziah considered freezing the waves of time. She’d stroll like a cool-as-ice, diamond-flashing diva toward him, then deign to answer his question actually more of a sky-cracking demand as he remained suspended between the rippling frequencies.

Truth to Zeus, though, she wasn’t certain enough of her force remained to pull off that all-in-the-timing trick. Giving her hair a slight toss so that it danced in waves, she peeked at Thunder-Force Man from beneath her lashes

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....

Part 186 ~

Sylva grinned in response to his playful, but wicked grin, and knew he thought about where else he could apply honey on her body. Arching a brow, she asked, “Two days?” Her cowboy twiddled a spoon, remembering. “Neither one of us had the good sense to walk away. Nope. One of us would get a good tight wrestling hold, and we’d be stuck in our positions, with our sides heaving and achin’ like crazy. As soon as I’d let go, or he would let go, the other one attacked and we’d be gruntin’, slippin and slidin’, tangled up like pretzels.”

Zeke paused to appreciate his Sylva’s rapt expression. “Go on,” she encouraged. Her chin rested on her hands, her elbows planted on the table. “Sure thing. Just for you, my wife. More and more people gathered around us. They were cackling like a coop full of hens and some were holding their sides, roaring with gales of laughter. Truth to tell, both of us lost track of time because there was a group egging us on. The day was overcast and it wasn’t until darkness fell and were lobbing punches at each other that we realized how long it’d been.”
