Romance, a World Away...

Saturday into Sunday mews, my prancy dancy Felines... ninety-plus hot degrees on the tame prairie... nope, not much pep for this hep cat... although, she is getting her edits done for KANDY APPLE AND HER HELLHOUNDS. Not bad, so far, and about three-fourths done... mostly, the always-confusing comma thing... once the corrections are done, this Big Cat will give it the ole read-over, just to make certain.

Romance, a World Away... Certainly this could be poetically said about reading a romance novel... the story between the pages, on the ereader, is a world away, a place to travel to from the comfort of your home, or as you go about your daily life. However, there’s another meaning to the phrase that popped into the Kougaress’s head.

Randi Alexander was the guest author at ROMANCE WRITERS BEHAVING BADLY. She made the point that women who read romance novels are generally much more interested in having sex with their ‘significant other’. The Kougaress has seen these type of statistics before. Certainly, she finds romance novels inspiring in this way. And men, or women, who don’t realize this are missing a lot of great sex. A lot of potential for great romance, also.

Randi expressed a sentiment in the comment section this Big Cat totally agrees with ~ “The world needs more romance, in my humble opinion.” In our current world, Romance seems like a world away for most of us. And, it is. Many of us are starving for romance in our lives, and that doesn’t mean just sex. It means a romantic connection, a type of intimacy that allows for the expression of love in all its splendor.

Question: How happy would our world be, if romance thrived, instead of being a world away for most of us?

Why this is so... well, that’s a ten-pager explanation, at least.

MEXICO CITY – The Popocatepetl volcano that towers over Mexico City began rumbling again Friday, shooting a blast of ash about 2 miles (3 kilometers) above its crater at dawn. ~ ~

Authoress news and mews ~

Okay, rejection just makes us stronger, right? Well, yowls, the Kougar just got stronger today. Daily Science Fiction rejected her flash story, titled, Green Tea War. No specific reason was given, instead it was a multiple choice of reasons. Or, take your pick.

No, the sci fi market has never been friendly to what this Big Cat writes. Obviously, that has probably not changed. Of course, there was a bit of romance in her flash, yet nothing bordering on the erotic. And, hey, why pen something unhappy, or just about overcoming some emotional or physical situation, like wearing a dragon symbol again. Ah, well... meows... never the twain shall meet.

So, since the Kougar believes in her 1,000 word Flash, what next?

Octavia rose from the natural springs hot tub and dried herself. Bless Tongson for putting up the small shelter blocking the colder winds off the mountains. The chill in the air helped dry her and bring her temperature back into human range.

Randi Alexander new release and book giveaway

I want to thank all the authors and readers at Romance Writers Behaving Badly for having me here today. I love the tagline - "I always start writing with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind." Doesn't that effectively sum up erotic writing?

I read once where a romance author was asked in a TV interview why she wrote smut. She was speechless for a few seconds, then mumbled something totally un-pithy. The reporter had tossed in the question purely for ratings and shock value.

Why Kissing is So Good for You

Friday, June 3, 2011

Sex usually begins with a kiss (although if you have no one to kiss you can always go solo with your cell phone). Humans like to kiss because we have lips that are DESIGNED for it: We are the only animals with lips that purse outward. But we're not the only primates that kiss--some of the apes do too (although we're not sure about machines).

Yet anthropologists don't think it's instinctive--they think it's a learned behavior, because although most cultures kiss, not all of them do. In fact, the Romans, who conquered wide swathes of Europe, introduced kissing to many non-kissing societies. While kissing can give you cavities in your teeth, it does get two people close enough to smell each other, which having sex (depending on how you do it) doesn't always do. Women instinctively prefer the scents of men whose immunity-coding genes are different from their own, since mixing genes produces babies with stronger immune systems.

Dopamine, which brings out feelings of desire and reward, spikes in response to new experiences, which may be why kissing someone for the first time feels so special. Dopamine can even lead to sleeplessness and a loss of appetite--classic "lovesick" signs. Dopamine is produced in the same part of the brain that affects addictive drugs like cocaine. In men, a kiss brings forth the "love" hormone oxytocin. Women are suffused with this hormone after giving birth--men get it from holding and playing with the baby. The stress hormone cortisol is the OPPOSITE of oxytocin and cortisol levels go down just from holding hands.

The most powerful weapon is the human soul on fire. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

A world filled with love, romance and a whole lotta kissing would kick ass! What a way to combat hate.

Sorry about the rejection! Never fear though, I just know you'll find it a good home or turn it into a longer story. :)

Hey Jolie, my idea of heaven is definitely a kissing society... lol..

Serena, you said it... and those were my dreams for the world so long ago.

My flash could be a longer story, of course. No real sweat on this one. I just thought it would be kinda neat, and they do pay for flashes.
