A Shaman Santa

Painting of Antlered One by Susan Seddon Boulet via Turning Point Gallery

Late night purrs, my Christmas Eve Kittens... mild temps on the tame prairie, but now the ice rain is here... hopefully not for long... and the Kougaress hopes you are warm and safe and holiday-merry.

A Shaman Santa ~ darling KitKats, if you appreciate many different stories for this holiday season, you may find this story speaks to your soul, as well.

The First Santa - Introduction
Wednesday December 8, 2010

In this holiday season, I received this cri de coeur from the mother of a young boy named James:

James found out that his parents stuff his stockings each year instead of Santa Claus. He is crestfallen. I asked him if he remembered a story you told him about a real live, animal-loving "Santa" that lived long ago, and he did, but neither of us could conjure enough details to make a suitable retelling. Could you please give me a reference to find the story of this previous, real-life "Santa"? It just might save Christmas for a certain young boy who yearns to believe.

The tail-switching holiday moment: The photos of the Saharan Cheetah and other desert animals.

The elusive Saharan cheetah of Termit, Niger

One of the world's most elusive cats has been photographed by a night time camera trap, after a year-long search for the animal.

The ghostly image of the Saharan cheetah has excited conservationists, as perhaps fewer than 10 of the cats survive in the deserts of Termit, Niger, where the photograph was taken.

Almost nothing is known of the Saharan cheetah, except that it endures extremely high temperatures and appears to survive without a permanent source of water.

On one journey recently, a cheetah eluded researchers, using the desert geography to maintain its enigmatic, elusive reputation...

Christmas in July
Wednesday, December 22, 2010

More proof our weather is out of whack: When it's winter in the US and Europe, it's summer in Australia, which normally has temperatures of around 86 degrees Fahrenheit at this time of year, but just like the UK, this country finds itself plunged into a blizzard. The equivalent to this would be if the US experienced Christmas weather in July.

In the Telegraph, Bonnie Malkin quotes hotel manager Michelle Lovius as saying, "First thing this morning everything was just very still, very peaceful and every single thing was just blanketed in a thick cover of white."

What's causing all the recent weather spikes? The jet stream is generating a record breaking cold AND hot temperatures around the world. The Weather Network, Jill Colton quotes meteorologist Patrick Cool as saying, "A huge ridge in the jet is bringing warm weather to places like Nunavut (an area known an "Canada's Arctic")." Have we delayed tackling climate change so long that it's now too late?

Meanwhile, the jet stream is having an opposite effect on parts of Europe. Colton quotes Cool as saying, "The Greenland high is creating a deep trough in the jet. This is leaving an opening for Arctic air to flow across Europe resulting in colder weather and snow."

A Grownup Version of the Night Before Christmas

For some holiday fun, here’s my grownup version of the popular Christmas poem ~
“Twas the night before Christmas”

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through my home
Only I was stirring, to pen my romance tome.
My best black silk stockings were hung, ready to wear,
In hopes, my miracle Santa stud would soon be here.

Fa-La-La Phooey!
By Danielle Thorne

In lieu of her non-traditional childhood, my mother tortured us every Christmas in the most inhumane way possible: She made us go caroling. A week before the grand event, the oven would be turned on and run for three straight days. We made cookies until we couldn’t stand the sight of them: Sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, peanut butter with the criss-crosses, lemon bars, and those little powdered-sugared nuggets with crushed almonds. Heavenly, unless you had to bake them all and scrub the mixing bowls after each round.

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 725 ~

Sylva watched her vision unfold before her mind’s eye. The three men she saw wore white lab coats and looked to be inside some a lab facility. Startled by their total resemblance, Sylva jerked. Likely they were clones, not triplets. At least, clones in a way she didn’t understand. The closest one faced her and frowned. ‘You shouldn’t be here,’ he mouthed. Sylva jumped, then felt a calming hand on her shoulder. Shaking her head, she opened her eyes. “Sorry,” she murmured out of habit. “I saw three Adonis-looking men in a laboratory. Sort of Tesla-like as think about it.”

Zeke straightened, easing his tense-as-hell muscles. He frowned briefly before asking, “Who the hanging-hell are you two? And, why show up on my land if attacks are takin’ place worldwide?” Zeke scowled now, as he thought about the implications of his own questions. Wes and Wayne harumphed sighs, then glanced at each other. “Heard you and yours are big into stopping the Secret Circle,” Wayne answered. “We was also already in yer neighborhood investigatin’,” Wes added. “Before you ask,” Wayne continued, “We were followin’ a lead. Supposed to be an experimental lab ‘round here.” Wes nodded. “A hidden super collider.”
