Late night mews with views, desperado darling Kittens... lots of snow melt today, a good thing for getting down to the mailbox... today the Kougaress noticed several times how absolutely beautiful her tame prairie is... the winter landscape, the skyscape... and she has to wonder why so many seem to take pleasure in destroying beauty in these times... but then, sadly, the mafia-psychopaths rule.

So, the Kougaress was listening to A Mad Painter on Revolution Radio at ~freedomslips.com~ and the guest***, who is an expert historian on the Cahokia Mounds,  Mound City, and the mounds of Ohio... yeah, all the history they never teach you... anyway, he brought up the Eastern Woodland Bison... or buffalo east of Mississippi River... now in the back recesses of this Big Cat's mind she did vaguely recall that there were eastern buffalo... the Kougaress has always adored the buffies, and their history... here's

Eastern Woodland Bison (Bison bison pennsylvanicus) were different in size from the plains bison and were killed off in the early 19th century. There is a debate as to whether they were a distinctive sub-species or the same as the plains. Some think they were smaller in size and lived in smaller groups due to habitat differences.

Thought to be near extinction until a small herd of two hundred Wood Bison was found in Alberta Canada in 1957. The Wood Bison had lived in Canada and Alaska though none were left in Alaska. For approximately twenty years there had been plans to bring them back. On June 2008 fifty three Wood Bison were reintroduced to Alaska. They were sent from Elk Island National Park near Edmonton Alberta to The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Girdwood near Anchorage for a two year quarantine. They should be repatriated to Minto Flats area near Fairbanks or released to Yukon Flats or Innoko Flats in the near future.
