In the first half, Dr. Melba S. Ketchum ~dnadiagnostics.com~ joined George Knapp to discuss the official release of her DNA analysis of possible Bigfoot hair samples. Her publication titled "Novel North American Hominin" is available for paid download through the DeNovo Journal ~denovojournal.com/#%21special-issue/crrc~ . Ketchum's findings were based on the analysis of 111 samples of blood, tissue, hair, and related materials sent in to her lab by Sasquatch researchers and eyewitnesses. Mitochondrial DNA testing revealed that the hair was human in origin, yet a forensic hair specialist examined the specimens and declared them to be novel-- "it was not human hair and didn't match any of his animal knowns it was tested against," he told her.

When it came to testing the nuclear DNA of the samples "we started getting really strange results," she said, "with weird looking bands that were all different sizes." One testing facility reported that the sequences didn't match anything in the GenBank ~enwikipedia.org/wiki/GenBank~ database. Ketchum has concluded that the creatures are either derived from humans and mutated excessively, or some type of hybrid. Further, she believes them to be a fairly modern species, paralleling humans in the last 13,000 years. In the latter half, primary investigator of the Phoenix Lights phenomenon, Dr. Lynne Kitei ~thephoenixlights.net~ , recounted the dramatic events that took place on March 13, 1997, as well as evidence that similar sightings took place before the incident. In the March 13th incident, there were many types of anomalous aerial objects seen over Arizona (chronicled on this page ~thephoenixlights.net~), but it's uncertain if what was witnessed was a parade of craft or the same craft seen from different perspectives, she explained. Additionally, that night, commercial airline pilots reported seeing a huge unexplained craft over Las Vegas, and "at 3AM, as the sightings were continuing...there was a call from an alleged crewman from Luke AFB to the National UFO Reporting Center, reporting in great detail...that one of these massive objects was hovering right over the center or Phoenix," she said.

Kitei herself saw unexplained oval-shaped "orbs" in the sky two months before the Phoenix Lights, on January 23, 1997. She spoke with air traffic controllers at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, who told her they saw the same thing at the same time. They said the phenomena appeared at about 1,000 ft. altitude over Class D restricted airspace, which would necessitate a pilot communicating with them, but no one did. The orbs did not show up in radar, but in viewing them with high-powered binoculars, they described six equidistant points of light, with a massive span over a mile wide that seemed to be attached to something. They were also two events on March 12th 1997 over the Navajo Nation involving a delta-shaped object, and huge orbs that changed colors, as well as a mass sighting (similar to the Phoenix Lights) in St. Petersburg, Russia in February 1997, she detailed.

He attributed the limited knowledge about the power of mushrooms to their fleeting nature, which provides scientists little time to study them. Additionally, he mused that the varied effects of mushrooms, such as improved health, sustenance, and death, contribute to a sense of fear because "they are so poorly understood." However, he marveled that there are over 5 million species of fungi on the planet, constituting more than half of the 10 million total species, of all organisms, on Earth. Stamets shared numerous instances where the ability of fungi to survive and thrive in extreme environments has provided insights into potential ways that they could improve life on Earth. To that end, he revealed how, following the Chernobyl disaster, Ukranian scientists observed that mushrooms in the nearby forests were "hyperaccumulating radioactivity," thus decontaminating large areas of land. As such, he suggested that the problems of radioactive fallout facing Japan, following the Fukushima disaster, may be alleviated via the use of mushrooms. Stamets also talked about how the unique survival abilities of various fungi forms could be used to both provide food for exploring astronauts as well as terraforming planets in the future.

Beyond the environmental benefits attributed to mushrooms, Stamets also detailed a myriad of ways that fungi have shown to be beneficial to human health. For instance, he shared the story of his mother's battle with cancer and how, after being given six months to live in 2009, she supplemented her chemotherapy with 'Turkey Tail' mushrooms ~huffingtonpost.com/paul-stamets/mushrooms-cancer_b_1560691.html~. Today, Stamets said, she has "no detectable tumors whatsoever" and her case has been called by cancer journals as a "best case outcome." Stamets was also enthusiastic about the potential therapeutic applications for "magic" mushrooms, since research has indicated they help in treating alcoholism and post-traumatic stress disorder, calling them "medicines for the soul."

How would you like radioactive metal from nuclear weapons facilities to be recycled for use in consumer goods like silverware, pots and pans, eye glasses, zippers, kid's braces, and even pacemakers and artificial hip joints? This practice was banned in 2000, but if the US Department of Energy gets its way, it will be reimplemented in the future (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show).

On the Who, What, Why website, Karen Charman writes: "The claim is that the radioactive elements will be at such a low level that they will be harmless, but what the DOE would rather we not understand is that dosage builds over time. Radiation, however, is a special kind of pollution. Because of the long-lived nature of many radionuclides, radioactive contamination can persist for a very long time.

"DOE seems to believe that as the contaminated metal gets mixed into the larger supply of scrap metal, which in 2012 totaled 59 million tons, the contamination would be diluted enough not to cause any problems.

"Perhaps an individual pot would be harmless, but if you live in a world that subjects you to an unending dose of low-level alpha and beta particles and gamma rays, you will be harmed.
