A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the sea just south of Cuba on Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning for Cuba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
The quake was felt in Miami, prompting people to evacuate from buildings.
“I was sitting at my desk in Aventura, I felt motion similar to feeling light-headed,” said one person who felt his building shake, but didn’t want to be identified. He told CBSMiami.com, “It didn’t stop, and my coworker asked if the building was moving. It lasted for another 20 seconds as we walked toward the stairwell.”
A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck in the sea south of Cuba on Tuesday, triggering a tsunami warning for Cuba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the International Tsunami Information Center said.
The epicenter of the quake, initially reported as magnitude 7.3 before being upgraded, was between Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Cuba, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles (10 km).
The quake was not strongly felt in the Cuban capital of Havana or in Kingston, Jamaica, according to Reuters witnesses.
Meanwhile, Mikhail Campbell, a police media relations officer in the Cayman Islands, said he was not immediately aware of any reports of serious damage.
Tsunami warnings were quickly issued.
“Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within 300 km (186 miles) of the epicenter along the coasts of Jamaica… Cayman Islands and Cuba,” the International Tsunami Information Center said.
There are no initial reports of casualties, however, there are reports of cracked roads in the Cayman Islands.

The “Second Amendment Sanctuary” movement that began in Virginia has gone national — with hundreds of counties and localities across the nation now declaring themselves to be standing against any new gun laws in their prospective states.
The counties and localities are joining at least 91 out of 95 counties in Virginia that have declared themselves “sanctuaries” against laws that infringe upon the Second Amendment, such as Red Flag laws.

BREAKING: Coronavirus Hits 15% Fatality Rate, 83% Infection Rate for Those Exposed; Lancet Publishes Early Study That Points to Alarming Consequences for Humanity
(Natural News) BREAKING: The U.S. news media is currently running about one to two days behind the Chinese media in covering the bombshell revelations surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. Natural News has Chinese-speaking investigators on the ground in Taiwan, and they’re scanning the Chinese media for the most important announcements.
Earlier today, the Taiwan media began reporting on a new mainland Chinese study that specifically looked at the individuals involved in this Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. We have a partial translation and link below. According to this news, which is widely circulating in the Taiwan press and is based on a study published in The Lancet, the Wuhan coronavirus fatality rate has leaped to 15%, and the infection rate among those exposed is 83%.
These numbers are virtually unheard of in the world of microbiology and infectious disease transmission. It means that 15 out of every 100 infected people will die. It also means that 83 out of 100 exposed people will become infected and able to transmit the disease to others.
So for every 100 people who are exposed, around 12 will die (15% of 83).
The only criticism of this study is that its sample size was relatively small, given that it’s still very early in the outbreak of this disease. The study looked at 41 cases of individuals who were exposed.
If the infection rate stands at 83%, this pandemic will be impossible to contain
Hong Kong and Chinese researchers published the latest research on “New Coronavirus 2019” (referred to as “Wuhan pneumonia”) in the medical journal “Lancet” on the 24th. Chinese experts pointed directly to the disease. The [fatality] rate is fifteen percent. Hong Kong experts confirmed for the first time that Wuhan pneumonia can be transmitted from person to person, and patients may not have surface symptoms. Taking a Shenzhen seven-person home with six people as an example, the analysis shows that the attack rate is as high as 83% and the incubation period is three to six days It is expected that a large number of cases will break out in China within a week, and the next two weeks will be a crucial period to prevent any place from becoming “another Wuhan”.
The same article also reveals the recorded rate of symptoms among those who are infected:
Overall, 98% of the symptoms were fever, 76% coughing, 44% muscle pain or feeling tired.
With 98% showing fever, this means that one out of 50 people infected will show no fever and therefore easily bypass current screening methods that are practiced by health officials.
If one in 50 infected people is able to get through screening that’s primarily looking for fever and respiratory symptoms, it means this outbreak is highly unlikely to be contained.
The article from Taiwan also describes the slow progression of symptoms, in some cases taking as long as eight days to appear:
As a result, one person had fever and diarrhea in Wuhan one day; many relatives they visited also began to have fever and cough on the fourth day; another did not go to Wuhan, but lived with four family members who were subsequently diagnosed, and the eighth day also began Found physical discomfort and confirmed the illness.
(Natural News) From sources on the ground in Taiwan, speaking to mainland Chinese who fled Wuhan as the pandemic exploded there, we now know that at least 300,000 citizens of Wuhan fled the city by road as the quarantine was being hastily put in place for rail travel and airports.
As the local government started announcing its intentions to lock down rail and air travel, citizens quickly took to the roadways to exit the city, traveling to other nearby cities where they were able to catch flights out of China. Some of those citizens flew to Taiwan, where family ties between China and Taiwan go back for several generations.
This means it’s almost certain that large numbers of coronavirus-infected residents of Wuhan were able to escape the quarantine there. Given the roughly 10-day incubation period of the virus, many of those people have already traveled to a long list of cities around the world, typically visiting family members as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations which are going on now.
We won’t know for many days whether those individuals were inadvertently transmitting the coronavirus to fellow travelers. In a worst case scenario, we may already have infected coronavirus carriers in every major city across the world, silently multiplying during the incubation phase. As we’ve previously reported, some carriers of coronavirus show no symptoms of fever or respiratory distress, making it nearly impossible for health authorities to identify them among other travelers.

Beijing has cancelled major public events, including Chinese New Year temple fairs, over the coronavirus outbreak that has killed 17 people and prompted public transport shut-downs in other major cities.
The decision was made by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism in order to “put people’s lives and health first.”
The announcement about public events in Beijing follows a decision to shut public transport services in Huanggang, a city close to the epicenter of the virus outbreak.

A leading doctor for the World Health Organization died suddenly amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that’s infected thousands.
Dr. Peter Salama, the former head of WHO’s Emergency Health Program from 2016 until 2019, reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland.
Notably, Salama also served as UNICEF’s Global Emergency Coordinator to fight against the Ebola virus in West Africa from 2009-2015
Both UNICEF and WHO issued condolences for Salama on their respective websites.
“The entire UNICEF family is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Peter Salama from a heart attack in Geneva,” the website states.

Salama’s death comes as the coronavirus outbreak, which originated in Wuhan, the largest city in central China, goes global, with cases now in the United States, France, and Australia, as well as China’s neighbors like Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Korea.
So far, 41 people have died and thousands have been infected as the spread of the virus is reportedly accelerating, prompting China’s President Xi Jinping to hold an emergency meeting with Communist party officials.
