E-Swindling and Worse...

Ooooo, my Big Beautiful Cats, it’s stormy-rainy on the tame prairie... round after round of rain and storms. There were some humongous cracks of thunder, the kind that rips the fabric of the sky apart. And moi saw a news story about tornadoes up in Minneapolis. The Kougar’s babie doggies aren’t thrilled about being put outside between the bouts of rain... thunder rumbling nastily now...
~~~
From what the Kougaress can tell, the e-swindling of ebooks is an ever-increasing business. Not only that, it seems to have taken a turn into downright meanness and utter disrespect for the author, her publisher and the author’s creativity... not to mention the hours and hours of hard, devoted work we authors go through just to make our stories the best we can.
This isn’t easy peasy, crank out a story stuff. This is our heart, our soul, our life experience we’re putting down on page after page. It’s lots of research. It’s staring at one word or one paragraph for half an hour sometimes, until our muse finally comes to aid us. It’s hours and hours and days and days and months and months of writing.
If you have a job, how would you feel if you weren’t paid. Worse, what if the service you performed was so disrespected you weren’t provided with any compensation whatsoever, even though, in truth, you’d done a good job.
Every time an authors work is stolen, it means she isn’t paid. It means she goes without. It means she may not be able to sustain a career as an author. Worse, it’s a strike at her soul, a swinging blade that cuts into her very being and says ‘your worthless’ to us. We have the right to steal from you. We have the right to take what you’ve nurtured and grown and leave you to starve.
This Big Cat is through with being polite or nice or in any way respectful. So, here it is ~
Authoress news and mews ~
Okay, my darling KitKats, the Kougar is planning on posting Pat Cunningham’s blog ~ STUPID THINGS TO THINK ABOUT ~ at SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS on Thursday, August 20th ~ this night of the New Moon. However, she may have got her claws crossed with another post... so... stay tuned.
Just for the cowboy lovin’ big cats ~ a sneaky peekie THE LAST WRITTEN PARAGRAPHS-snippet from BRANDED BY THE TEXANS...
“The thing is, cowboy, it’s starting to feel like a juggling act. And if I don’t juggle you all in the right way... well, I don’t even like thinking about the possible consequences. What if I toss Dash too high and Dono not high enough? Or don’t catch you? My head is spinning thinking about it.”
“Kylie, blunt truth is, we’re going to juggle you.” Halting at the counter, he set the tray in the sink, then spun to face her. “There’s something I need to explain to you and show you. I’ll tell you right now, you’re gonna feel like hoofin’ me in the head.”
She blinked. “What is it?” Her words charged at him like a ram.
We’re going to brand you. Dillon compressed his lips. Even though it was his nature to run straight at life, now was not the moment to tell her. “Let me show you first. Then I’ll explain.”
Tilting her head, she eyed him suspiciously. “What happens if I refuse?”
“We’ll make it so pleasurable you won’t refuse.” Dillon intensely felt the promise of his own words.
“I think my stomach is somersaulting,” she murmured.
X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....
Part 235 ~
Sylva had a wild urge to simply laugh and keep on laughing. Instead, she drily replied, “I’m not from around these parts. If you know what I mean. Now, please be nice and let me do some shopping. You know, a wife does have to maintain a certain wardrobe. I arrived with nothing but the clothes on my back.” Sally blinked her big blue eyes, but didn’t indicate she was leaving. “While my husband may enjoy me in the nude I doubt it would be appropriate for me to walk around town that way. You do enjoy me, don’t you?”
Zeke didn’t know whether to bust out laughing, a hand over his gut, or play along with his Sylva. “Darlin’, I enjoy every sweet nekkid inch of you.” Sally pointed at his wife, still in her own fantasy trance. “Where’d you get them purty duds, then? If yer not from around here?” Turning toward him, his bride’s gaze questioned him about their latest challenge. “Where did you get these purty duds, cowboy?” At the rapid tinkling of a bell, they all gazed at Bethanne, the proprietor. “He didn’t purchase that outfit here. However, I surely would like his business now.”
Moi’s comment mew-sings ~
Lindsay, everyone has beautifully expressed what's true about your heroines and your skillful brilliant writing.
One reason I find your heroines so appealing is because they represent their times in the sense that they overcome and live, not merely exist. And they are tough, physically and mentally, or they learn to be.
Thanks for sharing Ahhotpe. She's a wonderful anti-heroine! And she's so Egyptian. You must have lived during that time.
As women why shouldn't we write what we know... ourselves.
I have to agree with Linda. It's really tiresome when the focus of a story or a movie is solely on the man or men... which occurs all too often, imho.
Oh, big deal, who cares about fiction that constantly makes the male sex the center of the universe. Why isn't woman and man, as portrayed together, the center of their universe?
One of the Kougar’s Fave Wolf Shifters
Oh my, my summer-sunning Kittehs, the Kougar is wiped-out tired. She was due to head into the big town, but made an earlier trip to scout out a small freezer, since one of her refrigerator freezers isn’t up to par. Moi has been wanting a freezer, anyway, since she’s in the middle of the tame prairie. Of course, unloading it and getting it inside will be quite the trick... but moi will hoping for a few miracles.
~~~
The above artist’s rendering is one of this Big Cat’s fave fantasy wolf shifter pics. She first discovered it a few years ago while surfing the web for ebook publishers and has the name of the exceptionally talented artist somewhere. At the time, the Kougaress only printed out the pic for her personal looking at pleasure, not for any manner of commercial use.
Yesterday, when moi was searching for werewolf clothing images to find one for Pat Cunningham’s blog on
TITLE MAGIC ~ STUPID THINGS TO THINK ABOUT ~ a fun and phenomenally tongue-in-cheek look at the modern dilemmas of being a werewolf ~ this picture came up on photobucket,
No artist was mentioned. If you’re out there, artist, let the Kougar know. She’ll be yowling-happy to give you proper recognition and if she ever has enough coin, she’d love to commission cover art from you.
Dearest KitKats, you know you want to read Pat’s blog and get a peekie at the cartoon pic moi did use. Just flick your tail and click the above linkie.

In a responsible-driver manner, Thunder-Force Bear rolled past the stop sign and cruised the mean city streets at a sedate pace. Though, in reality, all was quiet since most of the buildings around them were apartments occupied by sleeping residents.
Maybe if she shoved the thorn deeper in the bear’s paw by being girly chatty, he’d make certain he got rid of her and be glad *good riddance* to one more annoying female.

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....

Part 227 ~

Sylva warmed with Zeke’s compliment. Feeling her shyness take over, she spun around, lifting her hair. Recalling what had occurred the previous time he’d laced her up, the intense ecstasy he’d brought her to, she flamed higher. “Lace a girl up, cowboy,” she drawled, covering her emotions. “With pleasure, darlin,” he returned, his purr deep and enticing. Once again, using an expertise that made her nearly breathless, he pulled on the lacings until the vest and skirt fit perfectly. “Wow, you are good at this. I look even more like a glamor cowgirl.” Sylva twirled to feel the skirt move.

Zeke caught his woman as she whirled, his hands claiming her hips. He stroked downward molding her thighs with caresses. “My glamor cowgirl,” he growled. She teased him with a smile, his sweet-natured vixen. “My, my, aren’t you the possessive cowpoke?” Sliding his palms over her made-for-him ass, Zeke cupped her sexy fullness and brought her flush against him, against his long gun cock. “You’re going to get cow-poked later, little lady. What do you have to say about that?” She tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with their passionate play. “I say ‘hit me with best shot, fire away’.”

Full Moon Smiles, Eclipsed...

Late evening purrs, my Loveliest KitKats, the sunset is a luminous shade of pink, so gorgeous the Kougar paused to drink it into her being-ness. It’s been a busy-intense day of writerly biz stuff.
Lucky Omen and absolute synchronicity, indeed, for the release date of COYOTE MOON by Pat Cunningham, released on this very day of July 7, 2009.
Maaoww... The Full Moon Smiles, her lunar eclipse soon to be eclipsed by a solar eclipse on July 21/22, then the third eclipse, arriving on August 6/7. For a bit more on the significance of the triple eclipse that is upon us, checkout this Big Cat’s post on the SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS blog.

For now, here’s the blurb and ‘official’ excerpt ~

COYOTE MOON by Pat Cunningham

Blurb ~

It's that time of the month -- the full moon -- when Willy Alvarez's moods go wonky and her dreams fill up with wolves. A time for hungers she doesn't dare fulfill because they lead to violence. She's resigned herself to a manless life, then Cody Gray arrives.

Cody is cute, funny, charming, and a werecoyote. His nose knows what Willy doesn't: she's half werewolf. He's convinced this repressed half-human she-wolf is his perfect mate. Now he just has to convince her. And quick, because her long-lost pack has learned about her existence, and they've come to town to claim her...

Excerpt ~

Cody sighed carefully, in and out. She wasn’t really in a state to hear this, but… “Willy, listen up. We’re out of time, so I gotta be blunt. You’re a werewolf.”
She stiffened in his arms. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Definite wolf. Not all the way, though, just half. From what I’m seeing and smelling, I’d say the wolf’s stronger than the human.”
She lifted her head and stared at him. His eyes were inches from hers, and utterly sincere. “You’re serious.”
“‘Fraid so. You almost shifted tonight, that’s what happened to you. The wolf and the ape are all mixed up and your body can’t make up its mind. I’m betting once you switch all the way, everything’ll sort itself out.”
“Switch? You mean, into a wolf?” Good God, this must be loonie night, and here she was stuck out in the middle of nowhere with a naked one. “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“Wish I could say yes, but you’re showing all the signs. You’re a wolf, and the sooner you own up to that—Hey, where you going?”
“Home.” Willy marched past him, eyes carefully averted, in the direction she figured Coopersburg must lie. The panic had run its course; her brain operated coolly again, all unwanted thoughts and emotions carefully suppressed. Okay, not all, but distance from Cody would take care of that. And maybe by the time she got there, she’d have figured out a way to deal with Beth that didn’t involve homicide. “Werewolf, my ass.”
In the blink of an eye Cody shot ahead of her and planted himself in her path. “I can see you’ve gotten good at this, but you can’t keep running forever. Face facts, darlin’. You’re a wolf, pure and simple, and you better accept it, or what happened tonight’ll happen again. Next time you might kill somebody.”
Like she hadn’t thought of that. Quick, distract herself. She waved her arm at the sky. “Explain why I’m human while a full moon’s out.”
“It only works like that in the movies. We can change whenever we want.”
“‘We’? So you’re a werewolf, too? Well, I guess that explains the lack of clothing.”
“Not wolf. Coyote.”
“Oh? Well, that’s a big difference.” She started walking again.
He got in her way again. She glared at him, seething over the effort it took to keep her gaze locked on his and not let it dip. Her mood swings threatened to swing her in that totally inappropriate direction again. Think of something else. “Okay, I’ll play along. How am I supposed to…switch?”
“First you take your clothes off.”
“That’s what I thought.” She stalked down the hillside. “That’s the sickest pickup line I’ve ever heard.”
She picked the stretch with the fewest rocks and stomped along it. She kept her glare riveted straight ahead, so she wouldn’t have to look at Cody. She could hear him trotting at her side, just out of reach. “Not a line,” he said, “just common sense. You’ll rip your clothes if you try to change in ‘em. Just thinking ahead, is all.”
“Of course,” she said frostily. “And I suppose in order to achieve this `switch’ I have to sleep with you?”
“Well, no. Never heard of it done that way.” His voice lit up. “Might be fun, though.”
“I’m calling the cops when I get home. I’m having you put away.” And maybe herself, right after.
“If that’s what makes you happy. I’m betting it won’t.” He reached for her arm. “For your own good—”
She snapped at him, a move so quick, so instinctive, she had no time to think. Her teeth clicked together just short of his fingers. She followed it up with a snarl that would have backed up a whole pack of wolves. Cody stood his ground and waited her out. The snarl died away when she realized what she’d done. Her color drained off until she was pale as the moon.
“That’s her,” Cody said softly. “The wolf. You don’t let her out, she’ll kill you. Chew you up from the inside.”
“No. I’m not. You’re not. Those things don’t exist.” She would have bolted, but Cody caught hold of her and wouldn’t let go, no matter how much she thrashed and snapped.
“Atta girl,” he encouraged. “Set her loose. I’d rather we didn’t do it like this, but like my daddy always says, any den in a twister.”
Willy ground out a curse and kicked. Her knee fell short of its target. Their legs tangled and they tumbled to the ground. She tried to scramble up, but couldn’t find her footing. Her hands and feet kept sliding all over the carpet of pine needles, and Cody. Like having four legs that refused to cooperate with a brain programmed to deal with only two.
“That’s the spirit, darlin’. Hey, is that hair on your neck?”
She aimed a punch at him, and missed. How dare he make jokes while she—oh crap. While she rolled around on the ground on top of a naked psycho. She shoved away from him and scrabbled back. “Don’t touch me. Don’t come near me.”
“You sure?” His grin infuriated her. “For our breed, this counts as foreplay.”
“You disgusting son of a—”
Coyote. Cody was gone. She blinked and he blurred. The coyote crouched in front of her, forelegs splayed and hindquarters hiked in the air. He waved his tail and yapped at her, an invitation to play.
Willy gulped, hard. I did not just see that.
The coyote lolled his tongue. Cody’s grin on canine jaws. His yellow eyes held Cody’s twinkle. He rocked back on his hindquarters and became Cody again, kneeling before her. “See that? Nothing to it. Now you try.”
I’m not going to scream. Screaming is for sissies.
She fainted instead.

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues....

Part 191 ~

Sylva reached out before she realized it, the sight of Zeke’s tanned masculine hand irresistible. Halting herself, she weighed the emotional pros and cons, a slugfest with herself... then covered his hand with hers. Tenderly, slowly, he turned his hand over, his palm meeting hers. Moments later, his thumb caressed, sweetness and sensual invitation. With a natural movement they clasped hands and Sylva wondered if she’d ever felt this magical glow with any other man. This lighter than air feeling. Yet, their connection was a solid. Her closest description was when she stood on the Earth with her bare feet.

Zeke surreptitiously observed the emotions flit over his Sylva’s face as she hesitantly reached out, then placed her hand over his. Quelling his eagerness, he darn well knew she was a filly who required a slow and easy hand right now. Dang, if the fireworks didn’t shoot pel mel through his loins and spike his cock. Especially as their palms joined and he stroked the soft full flesh close to her thumb with his thumb. Then, natural as you please, they held hands. As the bubbly flow of her essence filled him, he happily drowned. Zeke grinned, answering, “I whooped.”

Yay! For Pat...

Guess what? My Big Loveliest Cats, the Kougar’s ATIV Title Magician buddy, Pat Cunningham, is joining the Siren-BookStrand team as a newly published author. Pat has promised to write a blog for Title Magic at a future time, and perhaps share an excerpt from the book that is in the process of being contracted.
Oh cool curled tosies...

And meowing-of... the Kougar is headed toward the finish line with her edits for HER INSATIABLE DARK HEROES, due on the 17th. Tail-flicking hopefully, the one major issue is resolved by her prologue and the other fleshing out of what is occurring... clawsies crossed. Or, moi will have to put on her magical thinking cap again...
Then, it’s time for the revisions to STALLION OF ASH AND FLAME.... and submission. Next, onto BRANDED BY THE TEXANS. The Kougar is feeling tingly excited, ready to continue penning her alternate timeline story... the Ponderosa meets the secession movement sweeping through many states currently... of course, it’s really Kylie’s ultra-passionate love story with her rough and tumble cowboys.

Omygosh, darling Kittens, now moi is writing in her dreams more and more often, seeing line after line... and rewriting paragraphs in her dreams. Imagine a whole dream which is written out in the dream itself, instead of being like a movie. Of course, the story or scene makes sense as the dream is occurring... sadly, when the Kougaress arises, it dissolves away... which is okay for the stories that aren’t that interesting. For the ones that are... maooow! Huge frustration!
Ever experience something like that?

X-Serial Flash in Two Hundred ~ Sylva and Zeke’s story continues...

Part 110 ~

Sylva knew Royce was reluctant, however he led her up the stairway, positioning them along the rail for a good view. Straining forward as much as she could, Sylva saw Zeke’s back as he stood before Whip Woman. The fleeting thought *so that’s the kind of woman he was screwing* entered her mind. Annoyed with herself, Sylva cocked her ear as if she could hear what they said to each other. “Who’s that?” she whispered, catching a glimpse of a tall angular man who reminded her the actor, Sam Shepherd. “Barnabas. He’s been after Merlinda’s special favors for years now.”

Zeke steadied his gaze, tempted to steal a peek at Barnabas. “Ridin’ into town,” he began. “It appeared like she’d fallen into a street puddle. Later surmised she’d been portalled to our world from another Earth. Same date and time as here. You know what that means...” Zeke hesitated. Merlinda’s eyes were riling up something fierce. “Goddammit,” she spat and shrieked at the same time. Zeke resisted the urge to step back. “I can’t even blame you.” Suddenly her arm raised and she cracked the whip’s lash brutally beside her boot. “Fate!” she screamed. “I despise fate! I loathe fate!”
