Hong Kong Couple Arrested for Protesting Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison – Decide to Wed First

Tong Wai-hung and Elaine To decided to go ahead and get married despite each facing up to 10 years in prison for their opposition to the highly controversial extradition law changes in China.

The South China Morning Post reported in August –

Two people facing riot charges in Hong Kong  have tied the knot at the city’s Cotton Tree Drive Marriage Registry.

Dozens of friends, family members and supporters packed a registration room to witness the wedding ceremony for Tong Wai-hung and Elaine To on August 4, 2019.

The couple, who co-own a private gym in Central, were arrested on July 28 during a police operation to clear extradition law protesters in Sheung Wan.

They were each charged with one count of rioting, which can carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. They are among 44 people in the first batch of suspects arrested in protests for such offences.

Tong Wai-hung and Elaine To are not unique in one case.  Most all the individuals arrested in recent protests in Hong Kong are facing up to 10 years in prison for their actions.

The Khomeiniist regimes alleged that it was starting to slowly restore Internet access to Iran on Thursday, amidst a blackout that experts have described as the most complete Internet blockage ever initiated by a state actor. Ten percent of Iran has regained web access for short periods of time, so far, up from a low of 5%, when only regime officials and some foreign news agencies could go online.

So far, the areas of Iran that regained access to the web are sections of Tehran, parts of Hormozgan province along the Persian Gulf, and Kermanshah province, bordering Iraq. Iranians who can now get online are uploading videos they took of the carnage of the past few days onto social media. He first became interested in this issue when he learned that people were losing their homes in Florida because they couldn't afford to fix housing code citations. "The actions that some of these agents were taking were clearly violating...4th amendment rights, including peering over the fence into their backyards," he lamented. How many ordinary American lives were being upturned by government overreach?, he wondered. Warrantless raids on private homes, child protection services busting into homes in the middle of the night and whisking kids away, civil asset forfeitures, and strip searches are among the most egregious infractions of civil rights, he reported. And these happen a lot more often than people realize.

The increased surveillance of US citizens in the post 9-11 era is another form of illegal search, he added. The eroding of rights and protections is not a partisan issue, Kirby pointed out, and has been a mainstay of both the Obama and Trump administrations. Citizens unable to pay court fines and fees are sometimes forced to serve time in jail in what has become a modern form of "debtor's prisons." Further, freedom of the press in the Trump years has come under assault in a way that Kirby characterized as "chilling." We need to hold our politicians responsible for upholding the government restraints on citizens as outlined in the Constitution, he remarked. Yet, new bills and policies have made little progress in this direction in recent times. The ACLU has been the standard-bearer in taking on these issues, he cited, though some complain they've been moving away from free speech cases. He endorsed the Institute for Justice as another organization that tackles cases and promotes activism.

A TV network in the UK has banned the word “uppity” after a single viewer complained that the term was racist when used to describe Meghan Markle.

The farce began after ITV host Eamonn Holmes criticized the Duchess of Sussex’s attitude when she refused to pose for photographs with fans during her visit to the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July.

“If you have an uppity attitude, you’re only through the door two minutes and suddenly you’re sitting at Wimbledon and your royal protection are saying, ‘No photographs, no photographs!’” Holmes said on his show This Morning.

This prompted one viewer to complain to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom that the term was racist because it was once used by southerners in the 19th century to describe black people in America during the slavery era who didn’t know their place.

However, according to the Collins Dictionary, the term only came into popular use after 1929 and simply means, “inclined to be haughty, arrogant, snobbish.”

According to ITV, Holmes was not reprimanded for the remark but the use of the word was subsequently banned, with a spokesperson for the station commenting, “This was a point of learning for the wider team, not a rebuke.”

Respondents on Twitter slammed the broadcaster for reacting to just a single complaint, with one commenting, “Utterly ridiculous – just shows what the petty-minded little people who run ITV are like – full of PC claptrap.”

Others pointed out that the term has been used in a variety of contexts, including a famous children’s Mr. Men book by Roger Hargreaves called Mr. Uppity.

Sasha Baron Cohen has declared war on freedom during an ADL summit on Thursday, calling for more online censorship against conservative news outlets, Alex Jones, and the Trump administration in the name of combatting “hate speech.”

“Today, around the world, demagogues appeal to our worst instincts. Conspiracy theories, once confined to the fringe, are going mainstream,” Baron Cohen said.

“Democracy, which depends on shared truths, is in retreat, and autocracy, which depends on shared lies, is on the march,” he continued. “Hate crimes are surging, as are murderous attacks on religious and ethnic minorities. Now what do all these dangerous trends have in common? I’m just a comedian, an actor, I’m not a scholar, but one thing is pretty clear to me: all this hate and violence is being facilitated by a handful of internet companies that amount to the greatest propaganda machine in history.”

Cohen then asserted that Big Tech CEOs should be held personally liable if they fail to censor conservative thought leaders.

“By now, it’s pretty clear they cannot be trusted to regulate themselves,” Cohen said, adding that punishing tech companies should be an option. “Do it again, and you’ll go to jail.”

Despite the universal ban against Alex Jones, Cohen complained that his reach is still too widespread and criticized Big Tech for not doing enough to silence Infowars.

“Facebook, YouTube, Google, Twitter, and others, they reach billions of people,” Cohen said. “The algorithms these platforms depend on deliberately amplify the type of content that keeps users engaged. Stories that appeal to our baser instincts and that trigger outrage and fear. It’s why YouTube recommended videos by the conspiracist Alex Jones billions of times.”

“British voters will go to the polls while online conspiracists promote the despicable theory of the Great Replacement, that white Christians are being deliberately replaced by Muslim immigrants. Americans will vote for president while trolls and bots perpetuate the disgusting lie of a Hispanic invasion. And after years of YouTube videos calling climate change a hoax, the United States is on track a year from now to formally withdraw from the Paris Accords,” he added.

Cohen then called for a “purge” of anybody who doesn’t fall in line with the ADL’s talking points.

“There is such a thing as objective truth. Facts do exist,” Cohen said. “And if these internet companies really want to make a difference, they should hire enough monitors to actually monitor, work closely with groups like the ADL, insist on facts and purge these lies and conspiracies from their platforms.”

Davidson has just ordered US Army troops under his Pacific region command to train with Chinese communist soliders—a US Navy order without doubt being relished by Chinese communist military officials eager to learn US Army tactics and get their hands on top-secret American military weapons and communication systems—but is being countered by US Army General Paul LaCamera whom President Donald Trump has just placed in command of the US Army Pacific Command and its 85,000 soliders, thus making himsecond in command to traitorous US Navy Admiral Davidson—a change of command order issued by Trump that was near immediately countered yesterday by US Navy Rear Admiral Collin Green—who in open defiance of his own Commander-In-Chief President Trump, declared he was going to severely punish US Navy Seal Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher who Trump had cleared of all charges last week—an act amounting to Admiral Green committing insubordination leaving Trump no choice but oust him—and had Chief Gallagher’sattorney Timothy Parlatore saying in shock amazement about Admiral Green: “How tone-deaf is the guy?  The commander in chief’s intent is crystal clear, that he wants Eddie left alone”.   [Note: Some words and/or phrases appearing in quotes in this report are English language approximations of Russian words/phrases having no exact counterpart.]

As one would fully expect, though, this report notes, the deranged and demented socialist Democrats trying to overthrow President Trump with a sham impeachment coup astonishingly madeColonel Vindman their “star witness” during yesterday’s Soviet-style hearings—a hearing that saw impeachment coup leader Commissar Adam Schiff stopping Colonel Vindman from saying the name of CIA operative Eric Ciaramella in a comical bid to protect this supposed “whistleblower” whom Schiff has already said he doesn’t know the name of—and after whose hearing testimony, then saw the leftist mainstream media outlet MSNBC proclaiming that Colonel Vindman “Saw a Bribery Plot” during Trump’s phone call conversation with Ukrainian President Zelensky—an outright lie of gargantuan proportions that stands opposed to Colonel Vindman’s actual under oath testimony wherein he admitted he has never used the term “bribery” to describe the President Trump’s actions—further admitted Trump was “well within his rights” to ask Ukraine for help in an investigation— said there was an appearance of a conflict of interest with Hunter Biden being on the Burisma board Trump wanted Ukraine to investigate—admitted that he had no firsthand knowledge of aid or an investigation and was just “following news accounts”—and further admitted that the Trump-Zelenksy transcript was “very accurate” and that putting its transcript on a secure server was “definitely not unprecedented”.
