Count Yourself Lucky if You Can Read, Write & Do 'Rithmetic ... so, authors, a question: who is going to read our books if they can't read? Did you know that 80% of the students who graduate from high school in New York City can't read? The public school system, or as some call it, the government training schools, is in effect, slaughtering the ability to read, let alone write, and do the basics of math. And, yeah, this isn't happening just in NYC.

This, of course, is a horrible situation, not only for the individual and their future prospects, but for society in general. You can well imagine the terrible consequences of living in a society where reading has gone by the wayside. Does the term, dystopian, come to mind? How about the Dark Ages?

One consequence of being illiterate is slavery. Often, slaves weren't allowed to learn how to read and write. They might become too uppity, and actually want their freedom. How much easier is it to enslave a population if they aren't able to read, write and do math? A population who has been indoctrinated with this type of  'learned helplessness' obviously ***needs*** the mommy-and-daddy state to take care of them. Or be their master. Think about it.

As far as being an author, and earning a living with your books, it's simple logic. The more people who know how to read, the more readers there are for all of us, and the more books will be purchased. Overall.

The fewer readers there are, well... does this Big Cat need to spell it out? Do you need a calculator, or can you do simple addition and subtraction?

Effectively, the public school system, and those evil bastards behind the scenes who have brought the educational system to its knees [search John Gatto and Charlotte Iserbyt], are ***ruining*** your livelihood as an author. Taking food out of your mouth, and off the plates of your family.

Yes, in the same manner that the economy has been gutted by moving all those jobs and companies overseas... in fact, bribing and blackmailing some companies to move out of the US... well, now, authors are about to get it in the shorts, even more than we already have, and are.

Because those readers who might have purchased and enjoyed your book aren't being taught to read.

The solution? The Kougaress doesn't pretend to have the ultimate solution, other than to take back our country, and the ability to educate our children as each parent and child sees fit.

And, yeah, this Big Cat ***doesn't care*** if she agrees with the type and quality of the education an individual family decides upon. Freedom, the freedom to choose, the freedom to learn as desired, is far more precious, far more valuable, because it results in a population that will be, on average, far more educated. Light years beyond what the situation is now. Light years!!!

You know, actual intelligent life detected on planet Earth.

You know, the ability to enjoy a good book just for the sake of entertainment. For the sake of escaping into another realm, as we all need at times.

You know, as in being a dreamer, and encouraging your ability to be able to dream a good future into being. Dreamers are vital to any thriving society.

Another possible solution is helping anyone you can to learn how to read and write, and do math. There are literacy programs, and, yeah likely, they've done and are doing good things. However, this might need to be a neighborhood get-together or a one-on-one teaching session.

You know, actually being with someone else, and interacting with them in a positive caring way.

For example, if you have the time, or are out of a job, and can spare the time, teach someone who is hungry to learn, if it's only an hour a day, an hour a week... whatever. For one thing, more and more parents will be taking their children out of the school system. Guaranteed, because of near-future events. Yeah, stay tuned.

Also, while certain isolated areas of the country are teaching students how to read, write and do math, a lot are not.  For the sake of the future, now is the time to take whatever actions you can to decrease illiteracy, and help others. Now is the time to establish good relationships.

You know, there may come a time, given the more-than-dire world situation we're all in, when being able to educate others in the basics comes at a premium, and will become far more valuable than gold--and far more desirable than most modern-day skill sets. Think: the frontier schoolteacher scenario. Also, think real wisdom, not what currently passes for wisdom and knowledge.
