RESEARCHER FOUND DEAD IN HOME FOLLOWING “SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS” ON CORONAVIRUS
Suspected murderer also found dead in car nearby
A Pittsburgh-area scientist who was on the verge of “making very significant findings” on the coronavirus was found dead inside his home over the weekend from an apparent homicide.
Police on May 2 discovered Bing Liu, 37, dead from gunshot wounds to his head, neck and torso at his home on Elm Court in Ross Township.
A message from the Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he worked as an assistant professor, says Liu was conducting “significant” research into the coronavirus.
“Bing was on the verge of making very significant findings toward understanding the cellular mechanisms that underlie SARS-CoV-2 infection and the cellular basis of the following complications. We will make an effort to complete what he started in an effort to pay homage to his scientific excellence,” the department wrote in a statement.
A few blocks away police say they found another man dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
“According to police, the two victims knew each other,” reports CBS Pittsburgh. “Investigators say they believe the male found in his car shot and killed the man in the Elm Court home before coming back to his car and taking his own life.”
Police are still trying to piece together a motive, however they say currently there’s no danger to the public.

Police in West Texas arrested a group of armed men and a bar owner during a protest of the state order mandating businesses to close.

Gabrielle Ellison, owner of Big Daddy Zane’s in Odessa, decided to open her establishment on Monday in defiance of Governor Abbott’s decree.
“We can’t take it no more, we’re not going to make it,” Ellison said. “I am aware of what’s going on down the road. I am shocked. I had customers come through saying, ‘You know they have SWAT built up, they have SWAT built up.’ Why would you bring in SWAT on a peaceful situation?”
A group of armed protesters who have been supporting businesses deciding to open amid the government-mandated shutdown gathered at an Odessa Anytime Fitness location that opened on Friday.
The same group asked if they could show up to Big Daddy Zane’s to support Ellison’s decision to open, she told them to stay in the back of the bar, which is her private property.
Ellison said she even spoke with the Sheriff’s Office before the demonstration and was told everything would be fine as long as the armed individuals were not on the bar’s property.
When the police arrived in a massive SWAT tank, they arrested the six armed men who stood with their arms raised in the air.
“This was not a protest of their second amendment rights. It was a show of force to ensure this lady could violate the governor’s order,” Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis told reporters.
The men were charged with carrying weapons on a licensed property and the bar owner was charged with violating Governor Abbott’s order.
The protesters maintain the arrests were illegal because they were behind the bar and on private property, not within the bar’s property line.

Canadian bar employee was celebrating ‘Star Wars Day’
Video out of Canada shows a woman in a Star Wars Stormtrooper costume arrested for brandishing a rifle that turned out to be a plastic toy blaster.
Footage shows Lethbridge, Alberta police tackling and arresting a bar employee outside the Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina dressed up as a Stormtrooper for “Star Wars Day” on Monday.
The video begins with the bar employee and cameraman joking around about doing typical Stormtrooper poses and moves.
But moments later Lethbridge PD surrounded the Stormtrooper with guns drawn, demanding she drop her weapon and “get down on the ground,” which she did.
The clip then shows her being shoved to the ground and handcuffed with several police vehicles nearby.
A nearby Coco Vanilla employee is seen shouting at the police: “Are you serious?”
The woman reportedly claimed the police were too rough with her, especially given she committed no crime.
“The woman claims cops roughed her up as they put cuffs on her, allegedly shoving her face into the ground and making her nose bleed. Once all the commotion settled down, the cops eventually realized there was no threat — and cut the gal loose without charging her,” TMZ reported.
“She and her co-workers are pissed — but cops say they were just responding to reports of someone with a firearm and were only doing their jobs.”

A young mother was handcuffed, fined, and called an idiot in front of her child for allowing her daughter to play on a swing in an empty park in Canada.
Bridget Carlson of North Bay, Ontario, had taken her five-year-old daughter out to get some fresh air two weeks ago when she allowed her to stop at an empty park and play on the swing set.
Rebel News reports that the woman thought there was no harm in stopping for a moment to give her daughter a sense of normalcy by pushing her on the swing, until two cops came and harassed her.
“They put handcuffs on my mom,” the daughter told Rebel Media.

Carlson was detained, searched, handcuffed and placed in the back of a cop car while her scared young daughter looked on.
“We were here for about 15 or 20 minutes, she was just on the swing,” Carlson explained. “We weren’t hurting anyone, we were here by ourselves. The police showed up, two officers approached us.”
The mother said that she told the police that they weren’t harming anyone and just needed to get outside for fresh air. She explained that at first she was just trying to speak with the officer person-to-person about how it has been hard for her being locked up with no support for two months. Instead of showing compassion for her, the officer called for backup.
“I was taken up to the police vehicle where the officer did a body search on me,” Carlson said. “It was very thorough and invasive.”
“From there, they put me in the back of the cop car and I didn’t even know where my daughter was,” she continued. “We were separated for about 20 minutes. He called me an idiot and yelled in my face.”
The police told her that if she didn’t pay the $880 fine they will take away her license.
Carlson, a single mom and college student, said she can’t afford the fines and her sleep and mental health has been suffering since the incident.
Rebel Media is helping her fight this fine and is crowdfunding to pay Toronto criminal lawyer Sam Goldstein with the Law Society of Ontario to take her case.
